Infodemic: The Battle Continues
Timothy Caulfield, an expert in Health Law and Policy at the University of Alberta, is tackling the “infodemic” of conspiracy theories and harmful misinformation that has marked the COVID-19 pandemic. The spread of falsehoods about health risks and treatments has resulted in serious consequences, from vaccine hesitancy to heightened social stigma and public health challenges. Caulfield argues that we must counteract these issues with clear, evidence-based communication, especially on social media, where debunking can be effective. Known for his accessible approach to complex science topics, Caulfield has authored bestsellers like The Cure for Everything! and Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong About Everything?, and he continues to engage audiences through his documentary series, A User’s Guide to Cheating Death.
