The Friends of Edmonton Public Library held an intimate gathering to meet Edmonton’s newest Historian Laureate on Wednesday, December 4 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm. The "salon" took place at a stunning home on Strathearn Drive. A selection of wine, beer and soft drinks and an array of finger food, (hot and cold, sweet and savoury) was included.
Donna Coombs-Montrose, Edmonton's Historian Laureate, facilitated fascinating discussion about capturing a diverse set of local stories that contribute to our overarching understanding of our community. Edmonton has millions of histories and Donna works to preserve and elevate the stories of individuals and communities in a way that broadens our perspective on the history of the city. This is challenging work and we heard from Donna about how she chooses and undertakes her projects, the stories she thinks we should hear and how our understanding of local history should inform our understanding of the present day.
Keep an eye out for our next salon event taking place in 2025!
