School’s Out: 6 Online Resources to Keep Your Kids Learning

School is cancelled and our EPL branches are closed until further notice to limit the spread of COVID-19, but that doesn’t mean learning and playing are over. We’ve compiled eight FREE online resources to keep your kids learning and entertained. 

The best part, you can use these resources from the comfort of your own home with your EPL card!

1. Brainfuse

Do you have a high schooler at home? Perhaps a middle schooler? All the above! Oh my! Brainfuse supports students from kindergarten up to grade 12. There is also support for university students and adult learners. Students can chat live with tutors and create study aids customized to their learning needs. You don’t have to fuse your brain trying to find them things to do. Leave it to Brainfuse.

2. Kanopy for Kids

Settle into your couch with your little ones to enjoy episodes of Sesame Street, Arthur, Scaredy Squirrel or The Boy in the Bubble. The last one is quite timely! These adventures and more await you with Kanopy for Kids.

3. Muzzy

You don’t have to miss out on learning new languages because of the travel ban. Muzzy helps children from preschool to elementary learn in a fun and friendly way. Plus, Muzzy himself is adorable and can help your kids learn English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Portuguese or Russian.

4. National Geographic for Kids

Find all the things you want to know about lions, lizards and ice cream. They have videos, books and pictures from around the world that you can access with your library card.

5. Solaro

School may not be in session but Solaro is!  They provide Alberta-specific curriculum (grades 3-12) that you can access from your home. You can even take a quick quiz to make sure you aren’t rusty for diploma exams or work through course lessons.

6. World Book Kids

Does your kid love encyclopedia articles? We’ve heard they’re all the rage right now. Boy, do we have the tool for you—World Books Kids. It has more than 25,000 encyclopedia articles that include more than 1,800 tables, 100 animations and videos, 10,000 pictures, and 500 maps. That is a lot of content!
