Local Children’s Album

Call for Artists: Submit Your Original Music!

The Edmonton Public Library (EPL) is thrilled to announce a unique opportunity for local artists to be featured on an upcoming album of children’s music. We are compiling an album that will inspire babies and toddlers (up to age 3), and their grown-ups to sing, dance, laugh, and cuddle while experiencing the diverse Edmonton community expressed through music and song. This album will be a key component of EPL’s Welcome Baby packages, which reach approximately 9,500 families each year.

Submission Criteria

We invite musicians, singers, and songwriters currently residing in the Edmonton Metropolitan area, Treaty 6 First Nations, or a Métis Settlement in Alberta to submit their original songs. Please note that purely instrumental submissions will not be considered.

Deadline for submission is 10 p.m. on Sunday, July 28, 2024.

Why Participate?

1. Support Early Literacy: According to the Public Library Association (PLA) and the American Library Association (ALA), music and singing are crucial practices for developing early literacy skills in children aged 0-5. EPL actively promotes this through various programs, lending children's music, and providing families with music in their Welcome Baby packages.

2. Collaborate Locally: Join hands with other Edmonton musicians to create an album that includes high-quality content supporting the early literacy development of young children. We aim to feature a diverse range of musical styles and artists.

3. Gain Exposure: Your music will reach thousands of families through our Welcome Baby packages and will be promoted in EPL early literacy programs and services, giving you a platform to showcase your talent to a wider audience.

4. Make an Impact: Help us promote singing and music as vital early literacy tools by providing families with easy access to locally made content.
