EPL Offers Audible Titles for the First Time via The Palace Project App

EPL is excited to announce the addition of Audible titles to its collection for the first time! This expanded content is thanks to the launch of The Palace Project App, a free service for Edmontonians that provides a new pathway for people to discover new authors and titles beyond bestsellers.

“We are proud to finally offer Audible exclusive audiobooks to our customers, as it has been a request for quite some time," said Vicky Varga, EPL’s Executive Director of Collections, Marketing, and Technology. "The Palace Project App expands our collection into new territory, and we’re excited to be one of the first libraries to introduce it to Canada.”

The app was brought to Canada through a collaboration between EPL, Vancouver Public Library (VPL), and app developer Lyrasis. Expanding access to digital resources is a priority for all public libraries. EPL has seen a surge in demand for digital content, with its digital collection usage increasing by 57% since 2018.

To meet this growing demand, The Palace Project App offers customers an all-in-one platform for accessing a vast library of audiobooks, eBooks, and a small, but growing selection of titles from Audible that were previously unavailable to library members.

The app's future growth and development are driven by user engagement. The more users who discover and enjoy the app, the greater variety of content will be available, unlocking an even wider selection of titles for library members. EPL and VPL invite book lovers to join the community, try out the app, and help shape the future of digital library services.

About The Palace Project

Launched in the U.S. in 2021, the Palace Project App is managed by The Palace Project, a division of Lyrasis. This initiative benefits from strategic partnerships with Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) and funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. The platform itself is built on the open-source codebase of the Library Simplified platform, originally developed by the New York Public Library.

The Palace App is now available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play
