Rhythm and Knowledge: Edmonton Public Library Welcomes Biboye Onanuga as New Musician in Residence

Edmonton Public Library (EPL) and Alberta Music invite the city’s music community to join us in welcoming Biboye Onanuga as the new Musician in Residence (MIR). Biboye, a British-born Nigerian drummer and composer, is sure to ignite the local music scene and support Edmonton’s aspiring musicians.

Carly Klassen, Executive Director of Alberta Music, shares her enthusiasm for the newest appointment, “Biboye’s musical background and his commitment to community building makes him a great candidate for this position. We’re excited to see the program continue to evolve under his leadership.”

Starting Tuesday, Sept. 3, Biboye will work out of the Stanley A. Milner Library, providing free mentorship and workshops for those looking to learn and grow as a musician.

"We are thrilled to have Biboye join our team," says Pilar Martinez, CEO of EPL. "The Musician in Residence program is a cornerstone of our commitment to fostering a vibrant arts scene in Edmonton. With Biboye's guidance and inspiration, we aim to empower emerging musicians and create a strong network of support within the community.”

Mallory Chipman, our trailblazing inaugural MIR, leaves an extraordinary legacy as we launch the second year of the program. Her mentorship has touched the lives of hundreds of musicians, shaping their paths forward.

The Musician in Residence is a legacy project from the 2023 Edmonton JUNOS Host Committee, with EPL proudly serving as its host. For more information about the Musician in Residence program, visit epl.ca/musician-in-residence.
