Forms Completion Volunteer

Support library customers who have challenges with digital literacy and/or English language skills to review and complete a variety of online or paper government forms, such as Employment Insurance, Citizenship and Immigration.

Volunteer Location

Castle Downs Branch- 15379 Castle Downs Rd NW, Edmonton

  • Every Sunday from 2:00pm-4:00pm
  • 6-month minimum volunteer commitment (July-December)
  • Mandatory Orientation to take place prior to the first volunteer shift. 
  • Language Requirements: Arabic

Clareview Branch- 3808 139 Ave NW, Edmonton

  • Every Tuesday from 1:00pm-3:00pm
  • 6-month minimum volunteer commitment (July-December)
  • Mandatory Orientation to take place prior to the first volunteer shift. 

Sprucewood Branch- 11555 95 St, Edmonton

  • Every Saturday from 2:30pm-4:30pm
  • 6-month minimum volunteer commitment (July-December)
  • Mandatory Orientation to take place prior to the first volunteer shift. 

Stanley A. Milner Library- 7 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton

  • Every Thursday from 2:00pm-4:00pm
  • 6-month minimum volunteer commitment (July-December)
  • Mandatory Orientation to take place prior to the first volunteer shift. 

Volunteer Responsibilities

  • Work alongside the customer to complete government forms either online or on paper.
  • Use language skills to support customers who may have difficulty understanding English language documents.

Volunteer Skills & Qualifications

Required

  • Proficient in English (spoken and written).
  • Ability to speak, read and write in a language other than English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • High digital literacy skills including typing and website navigation.
  • Excellent technical competence.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Clear Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search

Preferred

  • Experience working with newcomers or persons with limited English language skills.
  • Experience helping someone with limited digital literacy skills.
  • Previous experience filling out government related forms for others.

Volunteer Commitment

Length of Commitment

  • On-going
  • Minimum commitment of 6 months (July 2024-December 2024)

Time Commitment

  • 2 hours once a week
